Fall programs in Pultneyville The Pultneyville Historical Society begins its fall program series on October 6. Society members, guests and supporters will gather in the meeting room of the Williamson Public Library on East Main Street at 7:30 p.m. The program will feature a talk on Charles Williamson, the first agent of the Pultney group, investors who were responsible for buying and developing about a million acres of land in the 18th century. Featured speaker for the evening is Batavia native and now Pittsford resident, David Minor. Minor's talk will cover the time period following the American Revolution when individuals and groups bought, sold and developed the newly independent lands in New York State. The New towns and cities of Sodus, Geneva, Bath, Caledonia and Lyons owe their presence to Charles Williamson. Find out how our own town got the last name of a man whose remains rest beneath the waves of the Atlantic. Minor creates historical research materials for authors and students, under the name Eagle Bytes. He also publishes materials over the Internet including Odds & Ends, a free world history newsletter appearing six times a year. In addition, Minor creates radio scripts for Simon Pontin's Salmagundy radio program on WXXI-FM (91.5). The meeting is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served and a brief business meeting will be held. Copyright © 1999 |
