Another week of September is over. Hasn't the weather been beautiful? (It would be nice if we could keep it warmer right up through March.) The geese have been flying South in small groups all week. (They must know something we don't want to think about. )The other day, a flock flew so low that, while I was taking their picture, I could hear the sound of their wings flapping. If you've ever seen the movie The Birds you can imagine what a fascinating (yet odd) feeling that can be.

October is here already! A happy October birthday to Janet Clark who will be celebrating on October 3.

Don't forget the Pre-School Storytime will begin on Wednesday, October 6 for children 3, 4 and 5. Storytimes are from l0:30-ll . If you haven't registered yet, you can do so in person or telephone the Library at 589.2048 . The Storytimes are always fun and educational. We went for years and always enjoyed them. It's also a nice way to introduce your little one to the Library and its shelves of great adventures.

bcat.jpg (10230 bytes)If you have books at home that are just collecting dust, why not take them to the Fall Used Book Sale at the Williamson Library? On October l4, l5 and l6, you can browse through the many books others have donated.

The Sodus Library has received many new audio books, which are great to listen to if you do a lot of travelling or don't have time to read. You could also listen while doing something else - like making dinner.

East of The Mountains by David Guterson
American Dreams by John Jakes
A New Song by Jan Karon
Life These Days by Garrison Keillor
(Just to mention a few.)

Carol Garland brought to my attention a list of books that have been banned in years past. Did you know that on the list are books such as:

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer,
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,
The Grapes of Wrath,
Where the Sidewalk Ends, and
To Kill a Mockingbird

The Sodus Library has set up a display of them. If you are interested in reading more about this, you can visit www.ala.org/bbooks

(If you're wondering what to pick up to read with the kids, click here for some of Melissa's - and Rachel's? - favorites.)

Congratulations to Rhonda DeCann who, not very long ago, was honored as one of the top Avon Sales Representatives in the US. She was honored by the Vice President of Avon Products at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort in Oahu, Hawaii. (She's so modest, when she called to see if I needed anything, she never mentioned the trip. See she's such an excellent sales person, I still order from her from outside of Sodus.)

printer.jpg (14443 bytes)In using the computer this week, I found my Boxer, Sarah, does not like the printer. We had the top open and the cartridge went back and forth as it was printing. You've never heard such a commotion! (I guess we're well protected... from the printer, anyway.) Her training comes back when she wants something (like popcorn) to eat. Amazing how fast she can sit!

When you have the time, keep me updated on what events are taking place in Sodus and Wayne County. Anything you'd like to share, birth dates, new babies, and family reunions - anything at all, please e-mail me at

Have a nice week and enjoy the autumn days while we have them!
