What's happening at Chimney Bluffs Hunting will not be permitted this year at Chimney Bluffs State Park due to a major construction project. Regional Director Jack Clancy said hunting has been suspended to insure the safety of the construction crews. A comfort station and an interpretive and orientation kiosk will be built at the existing parking lot on East Bay Road near the lake, as well as trailhead improvements. A small parking area will be built on the south side of Garner Road; vegetation will be thinned for security and to provide a better view of the marsh and drumlin; and a meadow will be mowed to create a picnic area. The major development will be north of Garner Road about 400 feet east of the sharp bend in the road. A paved parking lot for 60 cars will be, built. It was designed with pull-through spaces for vehicles towing snowmobile trailers. A combination maintenance building and heated year-round comfort station will be built. A meadow will be created running north 1100 feet to Lake Ontario. A handicapped accessible path will lead from the parking lot to the lakeshore. A total of three miles of trails will be created. These trails will be multi-use and will be wide enough for snowmobiles. Please contact the Finger Lakes State Parks at 607.387.7041. Copyright © 1999 |
