Happenings Where, oh where, has our FESTIVAL gone? SEPT. 2, 1926: Marion folk celebrated their centennial in spite of the rain, and everywhere could be found reminders of those sterling pioneers - Henry Lovell, Daniel Powell and Samuel Caldwell. Carol Boerman is recuperating from hand surgery. Pastor Donald and Judy White and girls, of the Second Reformed Church, have returned from a restful summer vacation. "Wanted: A good woman; must be able to clean, cook, sew, dig worms and clean fish. Must have a boat and motor. Please send picture of boat and motor." Pauline Wentworth of Zephyrhills, FL, spent two weeks with her sister and husband, Shirley and Arthur Stone. Tuesday, Sept. 7 - School opens in Marion with a full day of classes. Virginia Lupold at 597.4372 has arranged a trip entitled Simpler Times. It is a trip to the Amish country in Panama, NY on Tuesday, Sept. 21. Leave Palmyra at 7:30 a.m. and return by 9 p.m. There will be a guided tour of the Country Side 1850 Schoolhouse and stops at Hilltop Shop and the Country Store. You will have lunch in an Amish home. Price of the day trip is $49. The Marion Legion Home on Witherden Road will hold a beef dinner on Sept. 10. Prices are $6, $5 and $3.50 for kids under 12. Money received will be used for Veterans programs, such as patients Christmas gifts at the Canandaigua VA Hospital. The Auxiliary is planning ice cream cone parties, a picnic at Forman Park and lunch at the Newark Legion Home. The gift shop allows hospitalized veterans to select Christmas gifts for their loved ones at no cost to them.
