There will be pinatas, tortillas, soccer, mariachi music and more! Come to the Mexican Fiesta in Sodus, Sunday, September 19, from 2-8 p.m.

The Wayne County Multicultural Arts Project is sponsoring this event to Celebrate the heritage of the Mexican farm workers who live and work in our area every year.

Music will be provided by the band, Tempestad Musical. A DJ from the band will play popular and traditional Mexican music starting at 2 p.m. There will be games for children, pinatas, La Reina (the Queen) contest and much more. A soccer tournament will be run on the fields next to the primary school. Comida traditional, (traditional Mexican food) including chicken, rice, beans and mole will be for sale in the cafeteria throughout the Fiesta.

At 3:30 El Programa Cultural (The Cultural Program) will begin with a short theatrical reenactment of the some of historic highpoints in Mexican History.

Highlighted will be pre-Hispanic danzas (dances) along with El Ballet Folklorico (folk dances) from various regions of Mexico.

Featured entertainment will be the dance troupe, Corazon Mexicana from Brockport. Fairport resident, Guillermina Torres will present various folk dances and a local group of youth, who have been instructed by Ms. Torres, will perform a popular Mexican folk dance.

Following the cultural program, the live music of Tempestad Musical will light up the night providing music for the dance from 5-8.

The fiesta takes place at the Sodus Primary School on Route 88 North.
