Newark Chamber directors meet When the Greater Newark Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors gathered for a Tuesday meeting, members: Discussed the coming Annual Dinner Meeting in October. This year's event will be held Saturday, October 28 at the Quality Inn. The guest speaker will be Peg Churchill, Executive Director of the Erie Canal Cultural Center (ECCC) in Lyons. She will discuss the impact of the ECCC on canal tourism in Wayne County and how all can benefit. Nominations for Citizen of the Year are being accepted and should be forwarded to the Chamber office at 203 West Miller St. The award is presented at the Annual Dinner. (Click here to read more about the awards and nominations.) Nominations are also being accepted for officers and board members, to be elected at the Annual Dinner. If the current line-up remains unchallenged, Chamber President for the 1999-2000 term will be David Doebler. Director David Murphy asked if the board should consider raising the dinner meeting's ticket price from $25 to $30, perhaps offering a substantial door prize and treating the dinner as a fundraiser. Diana Lagenor, who heads the Annual Dinner Committee, said that his ideas would be discussed in committee. Tried to resolve the question of whether or not to have a food booth at next year's Newarkfest. This year's booth failed financially and members have been considering a different participation. After some debate, the board agreed by a show of hands that there would be no Chamber food concession at Newarkfest, but that the Chamber would sponsor something else - perhaps a bed race. Board Member Anton Dotschkal, who also acts as President of Newarkfest, Inc., encouraged the idea, saying that such a race would be a welcome addition to the weekend event. Copyright © 1999 |
