Arcadia candidates ready for race

Chambers & BartuccaWith the Arcadia Democrats' caucus last Thursday, the slate is now set for the November race.

The Dems gave their endorsement for Town Supervisor to political newcomer Joe DeSanto. He will face off with incumbent Dom Bartucca. Beginning with this coming term, the supervisor's post will change from two to four years. (Bartucca is pictured here being sworn in for his first term by Justice Bruce Chambers.)

Two Town Council seats are up for election. Incumbent Democrat Brenda Westcott and fellow Dem Tom Chappell will go head to head with incumbent GOP Mike DeJohn and former supervisor Gerry DeBarr. Four years ago, Chappell came close to unseating DeJohn. This is a political comeback for DeBarr - his first run since he lost a supervisor race to Tom Healy in 1985.

Harder, DeSanto, Westcott and ChappellIncumbent Dem David Harder will run unopposed for his seat as Highway Superintendent. (He is pictured here with DeSanto, Westcott and Chappell.)

The GOP has three incumbent candidates running unopposed: Town Clerk Diane Allerton, Tax Receiver Marsha Bowker, and Town Justice Don Fletcher.

Arcadia Democrats are outnumbered by Republicans by about 1,200 and although there have been rumors that an Arcadia Conservative Party will re-emerge, there have been no signs of it.

The election is set for Tuesday, November 2.
