Chamber invites 'Citizen' nominations
The Greater Newark Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for Citizen of the Year, Educator of the Year, and Organization of the Year.
They will be awarded at the Chamber's Annual Dinner, scheduled for October 28. Part of the criteria for each of the awards is an on-going commitment and involvement in the community of Newark beyond employment.
Past Citizens of the Year have included George Farrell, John Bilotta Sr., Karl DeMay, and the Stuart Family. These people exemplify the concept of 'community caring and sharing' beyond everyday events. There have also been awards for Economic Development efforts.
Organizations who have made a special effort to involve themselves and their membership in the betterment of their community have been recognized, such as the Newark Garden Club, and the Newark Fire Department.
In 1996, Michael Petrus was honored for his efforts to bring schools and work forces to a better understanding of the future goals of students and work, and to involve educators, employers and students in the realization of mutual goals.
Nominations will be accepted until October 1.
Submit your letter explaining why you feel the nominee has contributed to the community's betterment, to Newark Chamber of Commerce at 203 West Miller St., Newark 14513.
