Swim & sail camps planned at Sodus Point

All children ages 9-16 are invited to attend one or both sessions of Sodus Bay Junior Sailing Association's swimming and sailing camps. The camps will be held on Clover Street in Sodus Point, next door to the Sodus Bay Yacht Club. Learn seamanship skills, how to tie knots, racing rules for sailing, Red Cross Swim Lessons, and U.S. Sailing Lessons.

SBJSA's various summer programs operate in two sessions of seventeen days each (9:30 until 4), plus a Fun Days week which ends the summer program. Daily classes are held for many levels of sailing, starting with the beginning Level 1, intermediate Level 2, advanced Level 3, cruising and advanced skills Level 4, and ending with Beginning and Advanced Racing. Every camper participates in daily Red Cross swim lessons at all levels of instruction.

Each session has fun days and activities: Beach Day, Treasure Hunt, Big Boat Day, and the Swim Across the Bay.

SBJSA racers participate in weekly Inter-club Regattas in which they travel to other sailing clubs around central New York. The racers also travel on weekends to various regional Laser, Optimist, and Lightning Regattas.

Each summer the Sodus Bay Yacht Club sponsors a small boat racing series in which the SBJSA sailors and racers can participate. At the end of the season, the yacht club and SBJSA co-sponsor an Invitational Laser and Optimist Regatta which attracts top junior and adult sailors from around New York State.

The SBJSA program dates are:

SESSION 1: June 26 through July 20.

SESSION 2: July 24 through August 18.
