Al Marsters & Robert Matthews Sportsmen gather for banquet

In 1949, New York was the first state to introduce Hunter Education. A recent banquet was held at the Brockport Conservation Club, and hosted by the only Instructors Association in NY (Region Eight North Instructors Association).

Local representatives (from the Williamson Conservation & Sporting Club) were on hand to see Robert Matthews honored for his 50 years of instruction. One of only 10 persons in the nation to receive the Pioneer Award, he began instructing in 1950 at the Painted Post Field & Stream Club.

Robert is pictured here (right), with Al Marsters, who is Hunter Education Instructor Coordinator for Region 8 of the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation.

Visit the Williamson Conservation & Sporting Club website to learn more about it. The Wayne County Federation Sportsmen Clubs  meets every third Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Sodus Bay Sportsman Club.

(Special thanks to Black Powder Bill!)
