Sodus Lighthouse bank gets some preventive help
By John Zornow
Thanks to cooperation by the US Army Corp of Engineers, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the Town of Sodus, the bank along Lake Ontario at the Old Lighthouse is being shored up with many tons of stone.
Over 25 years ago, the condition of the bank had deteriorated to a point that the Lighthouse itself was in danger. Riprap was brought in and the building was saved.
Pictured is a temporary road, which was constructed to enable equipment to reach the shoreline.
The project will be finished in May and the area restored in time for summer Lighthouse Museum activities.
