Free substitute teacher training
Potential substitutes include housewives and house-husbands, college graduates who have not yet found jobs, people between jobs, and retirees, according to Melissa Stuart, BOCES trainer. The training is an interactive, video/computer slide-based program that covers classroom procedures, school building procedures, reporting and discipline. It is two days in length, for five hours each day. Since May, 56 people have completed the 10-hour program, which will be offered three times a year. According to Stuart, per day substitute pay varies from $50-$80, depending on the school district and the level of education of the applicant. Applications for various schools will be available at the training locations. Call 332.7400 for upcoming training dates and locations.
