Newark theatre expanding

Showplace 5 Theatre, at the corner of Main and Union Streets in Newark, has begun construction to add a sixth auditorium to the complex.

According to co-owner Tom Crowley, the additional auditorium should be completed in October.

No structural changes have been necessary, because a previously empty space is being used to make the addition, Crowley said. The additional auditorium will be similar in size to the other auditoriums, and have state-of-the-art projection and sound equipment.

'The addition of the sixth auditorium will allow us greater flexibility in bringing first-run movies to Newark and Wayne County,' said Dave Reynolds, the theatre's other owner.

Once the new auditorium is operational, the complex will be known as Showplace 6.
