  Marion Central has accepted the resignation of Don Conning as School Superintendent. Conning will be retiring, and Richard Boyes is expected to be appointed as Superintendent. Jr.-Sr. High School Principal Wendy Heffer has also resigned. The next meeting of the school board is August 23 at 7 p.m. At the Aug. 8 school board meeting, about 80 community members were crowded into a warm and humid library. President Dave Loucks opened the meeting by saying (the meeting) was held in public 'but is not a meeting for public comments.' He would only take comments on the agenda.

A surprise party was given on Aug. 5 for Donna Adriaansen by her husband, Ken, in honor of her 40th birthday. It was held at the home of Rod and Helen Adriaansen and was attended by 40 friends and family members. Donna said, 'I had an absolutely wonderful time seeing everyone, and the best part of all was that I truly was surprised!'

Bessie Van Hanegem fell and broke her hip. Cards may be sent to 22 Harned Dr., Centerport NY 11721.

Junior Boeye is recuperating from recent surgery.

Hilda DeLue has recuperated from her recent illness and thanks everyone for their cards and concerns.

Neva Claeysen continues to be a patient at the Clifton Springs Hospital.

Terry Nesbitt and Josh Knitter were united in marriage at the United Church on August 12.

REMEMBER: the Auto Show at the Marion Town Park on Sunday, August 20. And be sure to get your Strawberry Shortcake at the United Church's booth while you are there!

AUGUST 18, 1917: The 11th annual Mission Feast of the Classis of Rochester of the Reformed Church in America was held on the school grounds. Part of the services were held in English and a portion in Dutch.

Still time to get to the Wayne County Fair !! August 18 and 19 have many events.

Can anyone tell me where to purchase the plant, or vine, called 'the Dutchman's Pipe' ?

The Marion High School GERMAN CLUB will be holding a car wash on Saturday, August 26 from 9 to 3 at the Bus Garage. The cost is $5.

On September 8 there will be a Chicken BBQ held at the Marion High School, beginning at 4:30. Only presale tickets for $6 will be honored. Take-outs available. Call 926.2300 ext. 1211.

Berenice Sewert, Matron of Richards Chapter OES, announces that the Chapter will be offering Reuzelbollen for sale at the Masonic Temple on North Main Street on August 26 from 9 to 2:30. Stop in on your way to or from the Marion Festival in the Park to relax, visit with friends and neighbors and enjoy the Reuzelbollen. Take-outs will be available.
