jason whitbeck Whitbeck receives Chuck Craig Award

Jason Whitbeck, 18, of Newark has won the 2000 Chuck Craig Award from the Greater Newark Chamber of Commerce.

Jason attends Newark High and has been involved in many activities, including future teachers, yearbook, natural helper, peer mediater, musical plays, soccer, swimming, lacrosse, chorus, vocal jazz, and the work experience program.

His outside interests include W.A.T.E.R. Wayne Area Teens Educating Responsibility, Red Cross, AIDS Awareness program, the planning committee for Youth Conference 2000, and he is a member of Lyons Presbyterian Church.

He has worked at Wegmans since April of 1997 as a front-end coordinator; has done yard work for the elderly for 4 years; and has worked as a babysitter, house-sitter and pet-sitter.

He was referred for the award by Mrs. Jean Bendix from the Music Dept. at Newark High School and also Health teacher Jerry Crandall.
