Missing Sodus I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving (and now, for a while, turkey will be the main staple in everyone's diets... turkey pot pie, turkey sandwiches...except, since we went to our family's house, I don't have any leftovers!) Speaking of Christmas, the Grinch may not be coming to Wayne County, but Santa certainly is. Bright and early on Saturday morning (Dec. 2), Santa will be landing in Sodus at the Sodus United Methodist Church for breakfast from 8:30-l0:30 a.m. I'm certain that after he has some pancakes and sausage, he'll be glad to speak with all the good girls and boys about what they want for Christmas this year. Many Christmas Bazaars will be taking place on Saturday, including the one at the First United Presbyterian Church on W. Main Street in Sodus, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Check weekend events for other bazaars and markets. Also on Saturday, Santa will be in the Village of Sodus with his friend Frosty the Snowman and Carolers at 4 p.m. for the Tree Lighting in the park. (I'm almost sure that Al Dobbin will be there caroling. He is such a busy guy... almost as busy as Santa himself.) There will be an Old Fashioned Christmas In Wolcott beginning this Sunday, December 3, from 3 to 5 p.m. The First United Presbyterian Church on Main Street, Wolcott will have a Christmas Spirit Concert featuring local composer and recording artist Jeff Sawyer. The Concert also includes special guest, Sarah Bender, a high school vocalist who has been blessed with a beautiful voice . Refreshments will be served and the public is invited to attend the Tree Lighting Ceremony after the Concert. The Concert is free and all are welcome to attend. The Wayne County Museum Open House Tour takes place this Sunday, December 3. The Museums will all be decorated for the Holidays. You can visit the one room School House, the Old County Jail, a Taxidermy Museum, a Clock Museum and the Lighthouse Museum. The tours will begin at noon and will continue until 5 p.m. For a map and a list, call 946.5470. Happy Anniversary to Donny and Melanie Pike today, December 1, and Happy Birthday Donny on Wednesday, December 6. Do you have any book fines at the Williamson Library? They will accept canned goods in place of the usual fine payment. Don't forget to take out some fun holiday stories to read with the kids. Here are some to look for:
And some good 'Grown Up' books:
Thanks to everyone who's sent special events to make the column. Keep writing to me: I look forward to hearing from you soon.
