Storm knocks power; schools closed

storm damage Wind gusts of up to 50 MPH knocked power out to the south half of Newark this morning, from about 6:30 to 9:30 a.m.

Newark has three schools closed - Perkins Elementary, the Middle School and St. Michael's.

Traffic lights were out, causing temporary Stop signs to be placed at intersections.

One Newark resident had a tree crash into the her Colonial Drive living room at about 6:30 a.m., and just a few blocks away, the Robinson family had branches come down on their 305 Madison St. home and the family car (pictured). No one was injured in either instance.

The winds are expected to die down this afternoon, with 1 to 3 inches of snow expected.
