Castor completes railroad training

John C. Castor of Catchpole Road, North Rose, has completed a five-week railroad freight conductor training program at Mohawk Valley Community College, in Rome. He has been assigned to the CSX Rochester freight yard.

The training included railroad basic safety, terms and definitions, railroad components, mechanical makeup of railroad cars and locomotives, and the role of the railroad trainman/conductor in switching and movement of trains.

Also covered were relevant computer skills, proper use of tools and signals, radio communications, handling of hazardous materials, speed and car placement requirements, and compliance with federal regulations.

The College continues to enroll new students for the program, with new classes to be scheduled throughout the next few months. Information is available by calling MVCC toll-free at 1.877.MVTRACK.
