Marion supervisor reports We made it safety into the year 2000 with no glitches in any of our systems. It did cost our town a considerable amount of money, however, since we had to purchase some new software, as well as new computers to run those programs. At the Town Board's annual organizational meeting in January, the committee assignments were confirmed. Lee Goodridge will be the Deputy Supervisor and will also chair the Zoning/Planning, and Library committees; LaVerne Bliek is in charge of the Highway and Historian committees; Ron Lonneville chairs Drainage, Public Safety, and Judicial; Tim Boerman is in charge of Water/Sewer and Assessor. I chair the Parks/Recreation and Town Clerk committees. If you have questions or concerns about any of these departments, please go first to the department head. If you are unable to contact that person or need further assistance, contact the appropriate town board member as listed. On the (County) Board of Supervisors, I was assigned to the following committees: Public Safety (Sheriff, Fire Coordinator, 911, DWI and Weights & Measures); Public Health/Mental Health, County Clerk, Elections, and Veterans, Social Services (DSS, Wayne CAP, W.C. Nursing Home JTPA); Buildings & Grounds and Parks. In addition, the Board of Supervisors meets every month to act on the resolutions which have passed through the committees. It will be a challenge to learn what I need to know in order to make sound decisions. We have several water projects in various stages of planning - the Northwest Quadrant, the Northeast Quadrant, and the Arbor Road project, which is being installed in cooperation with the Town of Walworth. Our goal is to bring public water to all roads in the town, if it is financially feasible. I realize that it is a long and tedious task, but we are moving forward. We are progressing with the Grange/Library project. We have awarded the bid for the exterior improvements to Pro Construction, located in Webster, and they have stated that they will begin on or before February 5, weather permitting. Materials have been ordered, the foundation is ready for the elevator addition in the back, and we have our finances in place. It has been a long, drawn-out process, but the Town Board needed the extra time in order to make sure that we could afford the improvements. Keep watching! Copyright © 2000 |
