Yesterday, the Lyons Lunch Program celebrated its First Anniversary. Pictured are Alice Renckert and Teresa Herman in the serving line; also the youths who played music...they, too, enjoyed the meal. A "family" of neighbors eats lunch together five days a week, at Lyons Presbyterian Church. The Lyons Food Pantry is also located in the church. Sharon Lubitow, a "supervolunteer," says the average number of people having lunch (per day) is 25-30, but one day there were 80 people served. Lubitow and Herman coordinated the anniversary lunch. A turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy dinner was served for the anniversary. Pastor Cynthia Huling-Hummel was not at the celebration; she and her son were on their way to the Middle East. The Rev. Gary Sawtelle attended the celebration and gave the blessing and closing prayer.
Camille Santangelo designed the "Food That Warms The Heart" logo, that is being displayed for the current soup campaign. Copyright © 2000 |
