People who cannot read need YOU Literacy Volunteers of Wayne County, Inc. needs your help to eliminate illiteracy in our community. There are 9000 adults (14%) in Wayne County who cannot read. Please note that 44% of the population (28,000 people) do not have the basic skills to perform efficiently on the job. This problem has a tremendous affect on the business community. If you would like to take part in the solution to this problem, there are many ways that the business community can help. Literacy Volunteers is looking for tutors, committee members, and Board Members. Members of the business community possess skills that would be valuable to the organization. Qualifications for Board members are: A strong concern for the illiterate, and people with limited English proficiency Experience and knowledge pertinent to adult education or community development, or certain aspects of managing a business or a community-based organization.
