Arcadia Town board briefs With the new year's business already underway, the Arcadia Town Board also continues to tidy up 'Old Business' - the new water district, insurance, Erie Canal projects. As for new business at Tuesday night's meeting, the board (with Councilman Mike Diamond absent): * appointed Jeff Tyler to the town's Zoning Board of Appeals. The Budd Rd. resident will serve a five-year term. * named Paul Pearson as Election Custodian. Although Pearson recently moved to Clifton Springs, Democrat (and former supervisor) Orville Martin had requested that Pearson be allowed to retain the Custodian post. Gary Grant said he had a 'problem' with appointing someone who no longer lived in the county. Supervisor Joe DeSanto said that, unless anyone knew of someone else who wanted the job, he would opt to keep the experienced Pearson. Having voiced his objection, Grant said, 'I certainly don't want to stand in the way of the (representation of the Democratic) party.' Then, he smiled as he realized the likelihood of him standing in the way - the Democrats outnumbered him 3-1. * decided to entertain proposed changes to some of the town's ordinances. Code Enforcement Officer Chuck Verkey said he would discuss some of his ideas with Planning Board members and then submit his proposals to the board. Verkey will attend an educational conference in March. * agreed that the Insurance Committee prepare to request proposals for town insurance; and set up organizational/informational meetings on employees' health coverage. The Insurance Committee is headed by Brenda Westcott. * changed the time of the next meeting. The Board will hold its next regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday, February 8 at 6 p.m. in the second floor courtroom of the Municipal Building. Copyright © 2000 |
