Souperbowl Sunday at Lyons church

On January 30, The First Presbyterian Church of Lyons will join thousands of congregations across the country in celebrating Souperbowl Sunday 2000. The Souper Bowl was started by the youth group at The Spring Valley Presbyterian Church in Columbia, South Carolina in 1990 to raise money for hunger ministries.

In 1999, 2.5 million dollars was raised across the country and more than $7 million doIllar has been raised since the program began. The money collected by local groups is given to hunger organizations in their own communities.

Money donated on Souperbowl Sunday at Lyons Presbyterian will be given to help the Lyons Food Pantry and the Lyons Lunch Program.

The Rev. Cynthia Huling Hummel, the Pastor of the church says, 'Souperbowl Sunday is a simple, but signficant way of showing our love of God and our neighbor.'
