Missing Sodus
By Melissa White

Another week of the cold January weather has past. I sent the kids to school and they are back home recovering once again. I guess the keyword to be used with flu recovery is patience?

Helen Phillips, who went to New York City to the Radio City Music Hall, was impressed by its beauty. She said it has been restored to the l930's era. One day I hope to see it. Karen Castle and her son love going to New York City during the holidays, too. Helen had a cataract operation not long ago and says she can see great without glasses. (Must be nice to wake up in the morning and not have to reach for glasses.) Her son, David, and his family have moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. They are expecting a new daughter on February 1. (Another place for Helen to visit ...and spoil the new baby.) Helen's trying to decide if she'd like to go to Myrtle Beach to see her sister and brother-in-law. (Helen, you just have too many fun things to do and it's tough to decide. You're retired.. do them all! ?)

Bishop Clark was saying Masses in Sodus recently. Did you see the nice article he did for the Catholic Courier. It's in the Thursday, January 13 issue. In the article he mentioned how impressed he was by the people of the Parish. He understands how difficult it is for the People of St. Rose and Church of the Epiphany in the loss of Father Dave Faroane. It was a nice article, in which he stated the people of the Church strengthened him. There is a strength and closeness about the Church family and I am sorry for their loss. It is difficult enough to say goodbye to someone from a distance, but it takes courage and strength to be reminded of the loss of your Priest, every Sunday during Mass.

booksWhile we sit here in all our snow, it continues to fall as we continue to shovel. I received a letter from Diane Hixson-DelPapa who now lives in North Carolina. In North Carolina, they don't usually get snow, so it's fun and exciting. On Tuesday, the l8th they had at least 2 inches of snow and they were thrilled. Schools were closed. (Did you have a good time building your snowman/person? Don't forget the hot chocolate afterwards.)

The storytime at the Sodus Library is on Monday mornings. It's a nice excuse to get out of the house and a good way to snuggle up while someone else reads the story. We have a book list we think you'll enjoy reading. Ill find out from Carol what new books they have and let you know. Since she just came back from vacation not long ago, I'm sure she's trying to catch up.

Diane Philips has been giving classes for making Fabric Crocheted Baskets at her office on Canterbury Place in Rochester. Just recently, Diane informed me that the Penfield Crossroads Antique and Craft Co-op on 5 Mile Line Rd. has accepted her beautiful handmade baskets into their shop. You can learn to make fabric crocheted baskets. Just call 7l6.747.4768 (and let her know you'd like to attend a class).

Some January birthdays: Jim Malone, January 28 and Amanda Dolan, January 27. (Any birthdays you'd like to share, send them to me
