One of the Newark Manor activities yesterday was a pie-eating contest. Many of the residents gathered to watch as local community leaders tried to win the contest. Newark Police Investigator Gary VerStraete took the honors. He is pictured here with his empty plate. (He wolfed down six pieces of pie.)

Pictured (seated) are VerStraete and Newark Police Chief Dick Bogan; standing are Mayor Fred Pirelli, Joey Nicosia of Joey's Northside, Bob DeJohn, Officer in Charge at Newark Post Office, Courier-Gazette Editor Sandi Marcano, Village Clerk John Trickey, Code Enforcement Officer Mark Peake, and Pastor Rev.
