McCrossen named Commissioner of Social Services

Josh McCrossenJosh McCrossen of East Palmyra has been named the new Commissioner of Social Services in Wayne County. He succeeds Phil Gerhart, who has been filling in for Commissioner Rita Otterbein, who retired last year.

The Board of Supervisors voted and made the announcement on January 18.

McCrossen, 52, has been director of the Catholic Family Center in this county for 19 years. It is a private, non-profit organization that helps at-risk youths and their families.

For Social Services, McCrossen will supervise 155 employees and be in charge of a $30-million budget.

He was raised in the Rochester area, went to college at Syracuse University, and is a certified social worker. He is active at Park Presbyterian Church in Newark and serves as a church Elder. He also coaches Little League and P.A.L. baseball.

Josh and Carol McCrossen are the parents of Jennifer, 29, Matt, 20, Evan, 14, and Alex, 11. The younger boys are students in Newark Schools.
