Newark trees being lost to project

The current Newark school expansion/renovation project is causing some residents to gripe about the downing of trees - healthy, beautiful trees like this Purple Beech at the Newark Middle School. The tree is scheduled to be removed tomorrow, to make room for a new handicap entrance on the east side of the school.

Others were toppled late last week at the high school for a new driving loop. The two trees that stood to the right of the main entrance are now history.trees cut down at high school

There will be a special meeting of the Newark Board of Education today, Wednesday, July 5, 2000 at the District Office at 4:30 p.m. in regards to the handicap access and this tree.
