Missing Sodus Another cool, but nice, week. Enjoy the sunshine. I heard from Diane Davis this week, who tells me there is to be a concert in Ontario at Casey Park on July 27 from 7-8:30 p.m.. The concert features the Hot Foot Club and her younger brother Harry plays the bass. She says they are Swing Musicians of the highest caliber. Also, Diane is doing some puppetry workshops at the Lyons Community Center during the week of July 24. Diane makes beautiful puppets. The Sodus Chamber of Commerce is scheduled to be at the Farmer's Market on August 5 and 6 at the Point during the LYRA races. They will be selling milk and cookies. Anyone who likes to bake and would like to contribute some delicious cookies, they would be greatly appreciated. (Cookies can be made ahead and then frozen.) If you'd like to help with a booth on either of those days, or have cookies to donate, please contact Mary Jane Mumby at 483.4067 for more details. Shawna, how is your new job at the Williamson Animal Hospital? Don't forget the Fun in the Sun day at Sodus Point on Tuesday, July 25 at the park. From l0 a.m. to noon, with fun water activities, games and crafts . Sounds like a great way to spend a summer morning. The events are free but they do ask that you register by calling 483.4459 between l0 a.m. and 8 p.m. TODAY.
The Williamson Library will be having Family BINGO on Wednesday, July 26 at 7 p.m. Family Night Space Bingo will be a nice way to relax and have fun with the family. There will be refreshments and Robin tells me you can win fantastic prizes! If you like Space Movies, be sure to go to the movie on Thursday, July 27. The Return of the Jedi plays at 6 p.m. and, on Thursday, August 3 at 6 p.m., the library will feature Phantom Menace. The summertime fun just never stops! Sunday, July 23 at the Sodus Point Concerts, there will be two great bands to entertain you and your families. The Concert at the Lighthouse is having an Ice Cream Social and an afternoon of music. At l p.m., Fiddlesticks will be playing, and at 3, Nostaglic Reunion, which is mellow jazz. After you pick just the perfect spot to place your lawn chair, you can tour the l870 stone beacon. The Lighthouse Museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from l0 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ralph Everdyke sends me plenty of jokes to keep me laughing. Thanks, Ralph. While he's been up here from Florida, he has been busy getting the house painted, resealing the driveway and taking care of the yard. It must look great! He and his wife will be attending her class reunion at the Farm Restaurant in Macedon. Betty graduated from the Marion High School in l945. Also, Betty is a member of the American Legion and they attended a picnic on Wednesday for the Telephone Pioneers, at the American Legion in Phelps. Keep up that golf swing, Ralph, you never have to stop for snow do you?!
Don't forget the Sodus Boy Scout Troop #111 is having a Barn Sale on Saturday, August 5 and Sunday, August 6 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 5647 Buerman Rd. in Sodus. Hot dogs and soda will be available. If you'd like to donate items, please contact Craig Wolleson at
Congratulations to the Sodus Free Library. They recently received $5,000 from the Special Legislative Grant through Senator Nozzolio's office. The Library purchased many books and some videos on American History. Carol said the library sections regarding States, Government, Countries of the World and their cultures needed to be updated. She is thrilled that the grant allows her to do just that. Many of these books are valuable research references. Thanks so much to everyone who has sent me information for the column.
