wildflowers Visit ECCC in Lyons

The Erie Canal Cultural Center at 165 Water St., Lyons has added several exhibits to the recent photography exhibition of architecture along the towpath, Columns & Corners.

Wild Flowers, a photography exhibit by Mark DeCracker of Lyons has been added to the downstairs main meeting room display area. All these wild flowers appear locally, mostly in the spring, and have been captured in various aspects of growth by DeCracker.

(DeCracker frequently shares his photographic skills with our readers; an example of his wildflower photography is shown here.)

Liz Barefoot has made a return to the lower exhibition area with her collection of travel photos, from the Bahamas to the mid-West.

The Wayne County Council for the Arts transitional space is now open to the public. Phyllis Graff, long-time Lyons resident, professional painter and master art student, travelled Europe during the 30's and 40's. This new space shows off her work over those years, included pages from her sketchbook.

Ice Harvesting, on loan from the Sodus Point Light House Museum, is also on display upstairs. This exhibit consists of equipment used to harvest ice from the bay. On the lower level, a display of the Aldrich Change Bridge Project is again open for viewing. The only overview of all Canal Corridor Initiative projects in Wayne County, along with tourism and environmental projects, has also returned for display.

The Cultural Center offers maps for a self-guided walking tour of the Village of Lyons that includes sites included during the recent Canal Cruise visit. The Hotchkiss Building (home of the Peppermint Industry), the Wayne County Museum, the historic Court House, Grace Episcopal Church and the Wayne County Council for the Arts.

The ECCC, is on the Canal, in view of the Leach Road Bridge. Exhibition hours are Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 1 to 6 p.m. or by appointment or chance.
