Scouts help control plants in Sodus marsh
The event is to control Water Chestnut plants from invading the open waters of Sodus Bay. The plant is an exotic plant native to eastern Europe that was accidentally introduced into New York State during the 1800's. Having no natural defenses, the plant will dominate over beneficial plants and eventually take over the habitat. The water chestnut was responsible for closing down sections of the Hudson River to commercial shipping during the early 1900's. The Wayne County Soil & Water Conservation District would like to thank scouts, scout leaders and volunteers for their success. Troops and volunteers included: Troop 115 - Scout master Mike Miner, William Conners, Mark Conners, Jake Conners, Pierre Besson, Josh Miner, Louisa Miner, Qwinton Gilett; Troop 111 - Craig Wollesen, Matt Knowlton, Jan Knowlton, Shane Martin; Troop 108 - Scout master Al Walker, Josh Norton, Dan Norton, Jeff Milem, Brian Smith, Matt Oakley and Scout master Steve Guthrie from Troop 109.
