The time for summer vacation is coming in about 16 l/2 days. Not a day goes by that my kids aren't counting down. (It's tough when the weather is nice and you see it only if the teacher has the blinds open in the classroom.) Well kids, it'll be here before you know it. (Parents: get ready!)

For the most part it was a nice weekend. The greenhouses were busy. Of course, isn't Memorial Day weekend the busiest time? (Char, how was your weekend at the greenhouse?)

While we're here debating whether to wear shorts or not, Patty in Maui says it was 84 there the other day and Eileen Hooper in Florida says it's muggy. Susan celebrated her birthday the other day. (Happy Birthday, Susie.) The family went to the Yacht and Beach Resort for a little swimming. Eileen said the pool has sand in the bottom and an old ship with a slide on it that goes into the pool. Sounds like a lot of fun.

fern in full bloom! Mary Jane Mumby attended the Memorial Service for Len and Mary Alice Pilaroscia on Saturday. The service was held at the Methodist Church. Len had requested Red River Valley be played, and the Military Honor Guard attended. Mary Jane said the Church was almost full. Everyone who knew them was touched deeply by their loving and generous ways. They will be missed.

There won't be a column next week, so I'll say Happy Birthday to those I would be missing. Happy Birthday to Ruth Malone who will be celebrating her 20th (right?) on June 7.

(And even though the column will be missing next week, you can still send me information and I'll add it the next week's news. )

Did you pick up a calendar at Wal-Mart? (Someone gave me a few to hand out.) It has some good gardening tips: Right now you're supposed to begin fertilizing your roses and containers regularly every 2-4 weeks. Nice little calendar.

Don't forget: if you'd like to volunteer to help out at the Breakfast on the Bluff, please contact Mary Jane Mumby at 483.4067.

shady spot to relax in The Sodus Chamber of Commerce meetings are held the first Thursday of the month, usually at Nick's Family Restaurant. The public is invited to attend. If you are planning to attend and know you will be eating, call Mary Jane Mumby at 483.4067 or Mary Piekunka at 483.9223 to make reservations. Dues are $30 per year but you do not need to be a member to attend.

The class at the Kraft Shack for making the Stain Glass Garden Stone will be Thursday, June 1 , Monday June 5 and Tuesday June 6 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. $25 includes all. Don't forget the Kraft Shack's new Summer Hours: Saturdays, June 3 until September 9. They will close at 3 p.m.
