Missing Sodus

Whatever happened to 70-76 degree weather? How did it get so hot so fast? The kids will be out of school sometime next week (and none to soon, I'm sure they'll tell you). It's a busy time of year for the school and parents - field trips, awards, picnics. I find I'm running more this time of year than any other. I'm ready for a rest myself (although, with kids, I don't think you have a rest during summer vacation either).

dipolma Sodus sixth graders will graduate Monday night at 7:30 p.m. Congratulations to all. Then High School graduation is next Saturday.

If you don't have a senior ready to accept that diploma, be sure to get to St. John's Episcopal Church for the Yard Sale, and hot dog or hamburger lunch. The sale, 54 W. Main St., Sodus, will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

space rocket During the summer, the libraries have great reading programs to join which are a lot of fun and keep the kids entertained. The Williamson Library's Summer program is called Discover 2000 Read. There will be a series of programs throughout the summer such as storytimes, the reading program and special events with guests. Registration begins on Monday, June 26. When you register your child for the program, they will receive a Space Kit, which includes a Reading Data Sheet so you can log the time the child has been reading. When your child has completed the log sheet, the child then takes the sheet back to the library and receives a Space Buck to be spent at the Command Center Gift Shop. Children ages 3 and up are invited to the Storytimes, which will be held Wednesday mornings at l0:30 beginning July 12. Lapsit Storytimes for ages l8 months to 3 years of age will be held Monday mornings at l0:30 beginning July 17 . So mark your calendars and get ready for some fun!

Also at the Williamson Library, on June 21 at noon, Jason Alexander will be giving a presentation on Investing Your Own Future. Please call the library for lunch reservations.

The Sodus Senior Go Getters will meet at noon June 22 at Sodus United Methodist Church for a dish to pass luncheon. Guest speaker will be Mary Years, of Newark. She will be telling of her experiences as a hiker who, at age 78, hiked the Beaver Dam area and has hiked across New York State.

The Sodus Chamber of Commerce is still in need of help for the Chamber's Breakfast on the Bluff on July 4. Set up is at 6 a.m. and clean up is around ll. Anyone who can help, please call Mary Jane Mumby at 483.4067. Any time you can give would be greatly appreciated.

lighthouse The Sodus Point Lighthouse Summer Concert Series 2000 will begin Tuesday, July 4 at ll a.m. with For Dancers Only, and at 3 p.m., Gap Mangione's Big Band will entertain.
