Spay/Neuter will fix 53 animals

humane societyA special drawing was held Tuesday to celebrate the sixth anniversary of Spay Day USA.

At the Wayne County Humane Society, Mavis Weston (volunteer) drew the winning entries, as WCHS Director Bonnie Foster held the box of entries.

Gail and Bob Houghtaling of Walworth were the principal financial donors to cover the cost of spaying and neutering 40 animals. Area vets also pledged to cover the cost of several operations.

There were 200 entries from around the county. Five of the 53 animals selected are shelter cats and dogs, available for adoption. They are Jasmine, Noah, Wolcott, Corky and Trixie.

The certificates represent a savings of $55 to $100-plus for the owners. The winners are:

The spaying or neutering of the 53 pets will prevent thousands of unwanted pups and kittens from being born this year alone.

The participating veterinarians are Walworth Animal Hospital, County Line Animal Hospital, Williamson Animal Hospital, Lake Ontario Veterinary Clinic, Palmyra Animal Hospital, and Macedon Veterinary Care (formerly Trap Brook Veterinary).
