Missing Sodus
By Melissa White

Gosh, is this weather crazy or what? During the week, we had the chance to wash the windows. (I guess so we can see the snow better when it comes back.)

The Wallington Fire Department will be having another great Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, March 12 (Save the date. April 9, too!) All-you-can eat beginning at 8 until noon. The money raised will be pancakesused to purchase fire-fighting equipment. All are welcome to attend. (All Fred asks is that you bring a good appetite. Right, Fred?)

How many of you take a ride up Route 88 to the Fish Suppers at the Fairville Fire Hall? They're held every Friday during Lent and start at 5 p.m. (Pretty famous fish fry in these parts.)

On March 15, you can head to Books Sandwiched In at the Williamson Library. Come at noon to hear Terrence Spencer's review of Tom Brokaw's The Greatest Generation. (Call ahead if you want lunch.)

On Thursday, wander over to Myers Hospital to the Book Fair from 10-4 p.m. (You know how we feel about books!)

All the local schools are staging (or getting ready to stage) their musical productions. This weekend, you can catch Anything Goes in Marion and Fiddler on the Roof in Newark. If you miss next weekend's Lyons production of The Pajama Game, you can see the Sodus kids perform it beginning Friday, March 31. (Call 483.2331 ext. 7301 for tickets.) In Williamson, the students have invited the senior citizens to attend a March 22 dress rehearsal and dinner. The kids are doing The Music Man. (Williamson sr. citizens should call 589.9661 for reservations.)

And, speaking of Williamson, the Come-Unity Center is raffling off a beautiful porcelain doll. You PineHill Orchardscan get tickets at the Center or at the Common Cents Thrift Shoppe (also on West Main St.).

Spring is really just around the corner. I hear that Pinehill Orchards will be opening in April. It's located on Route 14 between Alton and Lyons. If you haven't visited yet, you really should watch for their opening.

Also in April? Easter! In previous weeks, I have mentioned Diane Phillips of Granny Goodstory Productions and the beautiful baskets she will teach you to make. I will be attending a class. The kids and I are really looking forward to the new experience. There is a sign up sheet at the L.W. Emporium in Ontario. The Emporium is open from l0-5, Tuesday through Sunday. Classes are free and at your convenience; you pay the cost of the materials.

I hear a new Antique Center is coming to the Emporium. Watch for an April 8-22 Grand opening celebration of the Whistle Stop Antique Center. (The doors will actually open April 1.)

Watch for Granny Goodstory's new website coming up. (I'll let you know how to find it. I think you and your children will enjoy it. There are Granny Adventure stories, a calendar and a flannel board so your kids can help with the mouse.)

Happy BirthdayHappy Birthday Melanie Pike! (I didn't forget!)

There are free GED classes at the First Reformed Church on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9-12 and at the Sodus Elementary School on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. For more information please call 800.527.1765. (It's never to late to get your GED!)

The support group for spouses, children and close friends of Nursing Home Residents meets at the Blossom View Nursing Home on Maple Avenue, every third Tuesday at 3:30. For more information, call 483.9118 from 9-5.

Thanks to everyone who has kept in touch and hopefully I will be hearing from more of you. It's nice for people who live in the area to keep up on events, and it's also fun for those who have moved out of the area. It makes those who are Missing Sodus feel included. Write to me at
