Art Show at Newark Church 'A Celebration of Beauty' will be held at the Newark Park Presbyterian Church on March 25 and 26. Three artists will display their varied work. Linda Banks Hansee, fiber artist, began her career in Newark as an art teacher at the Perkins and Roosevelt Elementary schools in the early seventies. She continued in the field of education as Placement Director at the Finger Lakes Community College while pursuing her weaving, painting and printmaking. In 1996, Hansee became a full-time artist, concentrating on weaving. Her unique one-of-a-kind handwoven wallhangings incorporate leaves, shells and other natural items into the structure. Her work has been shown at various art festivals and wineries across the state. She lives in Corning. Roland 'Chip' Stevens III, watercolorist, lives in Pultneyville and is a Rochester architect. A self-taught artist, he has been influenced by Jossey Bilan, Winslow Homer, Edward Hopper, John Pike, Ted Kautsky, and Andrew Wyeth. His imaginative watercolors reflect his wide interests and his love of an artistic challenge. Michael Shoemaker, photographer, is a physician at the Wolcott Medical Center, and has lived in Wayne County for 13 years. Beginning as a photographer and darkroom technician for his family's weekly newspaper, he has had a lifelong interest in photography, and has attended workshops presented by Nikon, John Gerlach, Rod Planck, and Steve Drehl. His work has been shown at St. Mark's Episcopal Church Garden Faire, and the First United Methodist Church, both in Newark, and has appeared in several publications. Recently he has collaborated on a calendar of Mormon Historic Sites. Through the lens of his camera, he portrays nature in its wonder and excitement. The free exhibit will be open on Saturday, March 25 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., with a reception to meet the artists from 4 to 6 p.m. On Sunday, March 26, the art may be seen from 9 to 10 a.m. and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Entry is through the Maple Court church door. For information call 331.2255. 'A Celebration of Beauty' is made possible in part by public funds from the State Council on the Arts' Decentralization Program. Copyright © 2000 |
