Looking for Marion's WWII veterans The members of Marion American Legion Post 1430 and its Auxiliary are compiling a list of Marion area residents that served during World War II. The names will be sent to Washington, DC and be placed on the new WWII monument. Unit 1430 Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation chairman, Kathy Weeks said, 'We're amazed at the number of World War II veterans from this community. There are over 400 names on the list so far.' We don't want to miss anyone's name for the new monument. A luncheon is being planned in April for the WWII veterans from the Marion area and Post 1430 members who served during this war era. If you are able to help the Post out in any way, or to reserve a spot for the luncheon please call the Post home after 3 p.m. at 926.5571. We are looking for branches of service, ranks and where they served. If someone needs a ride the post will provide transportation. The Legion Post, Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion and Junior Auxiliary have sent a large contribution to the WWII Memorial Fund. Copyright © 2000 |
