Kuperus family will open Newark meat market

An old-fashioned meat and cheese market will be moving to 204 W. Union St. and opening on May 9.

The property was the site of the Red Apple/Busy Bee/Kwik Fill.

Henry and Darla Kuperus, former owners of Smith Meat Packing in Marion, need more space and visibility. Hen-Dar's Meat Market will offer the same meat items that Smith Meat Packing offered. Dave Norsen is the meat cutter, well known in the area.

In addition to the meat market, there will be a full line of deli meats from Lancaster Valley Meats, a bulk foods section including spices, baking products, candies, etc., Dutch cheeses and products, freezer selections, and hot dogs.

For lunch they will make subs to order, offer hot pork BBQ and meatball sandwiches inside. Outdoors, they will cook their made-fresh-daily burgers, sausage links and hots.

Hours will be Tuesday 11 to 6, Wednesday to Friday 8:30 to 6, and Saturdays 8:30 to 3. Phone 331.4825.
