People in towns and cities across the nation got together Thursday for National Day of Prayer.

In Newark, the event was held at noon in Central Park. About 80 people attended, under blue skies and sunshine.

The Rev. Elton Smith of First United Methodist Church organized the Day and read a message from Assemblyman Bob Oaks. Oaks had planned to be at the Day of Prayer but was summoned to Albany on official business.

Newark clergy participating included the Reverends Carlos Smith, Barbara Kauber, Dan Benedict, Tim Johnson, William Mugnolo, Gerald Harris and Stuart Buisch. Playing keyboard was Edith Benedict.
