Marion plans to mark Memorial Day

Marion's annual Memorial Day Parade and Exercises will be on Monday, May 29.

Line-up for the parade will be at 10:30 a.m. at the Marion Firemen's Field, with step-off at 11 a.m. The parade will progress down North Main Street to the Cemetery Drive, ending at the Soldier's Monument in the Marion Cemetery.

Participating in the parade will be the Marion Junior-Senior Band, who will perform their intricate marching routines in the downtown section of Marion.

Other organizations and groups will also be participating.

This year's theme is World War II and all Marion Veterans are invited to ride on a special float created for this year's parade.

High school seniors were invited to prepare an essay titled World War II. Winning essays will be read by the authors of these essays at the podium at the Cemetery Chapel.

Marion fifth graders will recite the Gettysburg Address, as all classes have done in the past years.
