korean war memorial Memorial Day celebration in Newark

The parade and ceremony for Memorial Day will take place in Newark on Sunday, May 28 at 2 p.m.

The parade starts on North Main Street, crossing the canal bridge and concluding in Central Park.

The opening and closing prayers will be said by the Rev. John Smith of New Hope Bible Church.

The high school band will play, and three students will be named winners of the Memorial Day Essay Contest. Musical selections will be performed by the Newark Middle School Enrichment Group.

The Memorial Day Speaker will be Sgt. Robert Pulino, U. S. Army

Wreath laying ceremony takes place at World War I and II, Korea and Vietnam War Memorials. (The Korea/Vietnam Memorial is pictured.)

Dolores Wagemaker, Gold Star Mother, will be a distinguished guest. Her son, John R. Marsh, was killed in Vietnam.

Local leaders are: VFW Post #2883 Commander Ernie Mori

Kathie Polisse, President - VFW Auxiliary President

American Legion Post #286, Commander Charles Schade

Janet Lathrop, President - American Legion Auxiliary

President, AVSO - Robert Brown, Jr.

Auxiliary AVSO President is Julie Santiago

2000 Poppy Princesses are: VFW Post #2883 - Bianca Tolleson; American Legion Post #286 - Rebecca Gutschow

The Honor Rolls will be recited by Ernie Mori and Charles Schade.
