Missing Sodus
By Melissa White

What an interesting day we had on Wednesday! I have never turned the lights on and off so many times. I put some of my houseplants outside so they could enjoy the sunshine on the porch and what a shock we all had, hail all over the place! Thank goodness it didn't hit as the kids were getting off the school buses.

Eileen Hooper wrote to me. Congratulations are in order for her son, Robert. Bobby received the President's Award in his graduating class. He took home a certificate, a pin and letter. Great job, Bobby. (It is still Bobby, isn't it?) Epcot has a flower show going on at the time in Florida and the temperatures are in the 80's. Poor Ralph left that beautiful weather for chilly temps and hail. It'll be warm here before we know it. (Eileen, when you get the chance send me some pictures to share.)

The Sodus Memorial Day parade will line up at the school tennis court at 9 a.m. Monday. The parade will proceed to the Sodus Rural Cemetery, where there will be a ceremony. If it rains (and it's supposed to), the service will be held at the American Legion.

American flag In Williamson, instead of observing the holiday on Monday, they hold to tradition. Tuesday, May 30, the parade steps off from the Legion on Lake Ave. at 6 p.m., marching to arrive at Sunnyside by 6:30. Refreshments at the Legion following the ceremony, and again, in the event of rain (it's supposed to be beautiful), the service will be held at the Legion.

flower Meanwhile, the Girl Scouts have rescheduled their Flower Sale cancelled because of rain last Saturday. They're going to try again Monday at 10:30 a.m. If you miss them, check the booth in front of the Sodus Point United Methodist Church.

If you're a Sodus School alumni, you won't want to miss the final music department concert. All are invited to join the chorus to sing the Battle Hymn of the Republic. The concert will be held Wednesday, June 7 in the High School auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Those wishing to participate are asked to rehearse that evening at 7 p.m. in Room 116.

Start saving your treasures to donate to the Community Garage Sale in Sodus Point. The money raised will be used for playground equipment and the Community Center. The sale will be held June 17, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Willow Park. You can drop your items there on June 16 from noon to 7 p.m.

The Sodus Chamber of Commerce is looking for people to help out with the Breakfast on the Bluff on the 4th of July. If you'd like to be a part of the big breakfast, call Mary Jane Mumby at 483.4067 .

Sodus School My daughter's third grade class went on a field trip to Nazareth to see a play. Much to her surprise, she met some friends from Sodus, also there to see the play. Patty Clark was so delighted, she called out to my daughter. It was fun to see old friends and chat for a bit with Mrs. Witt and Mrs. Southwick. It was more of a special field trip than anyone could imagine.

The Williamson Library is closed through Monday, but they'll re-open Tuesday.

While you're at the library please take a look at these books by Mercer Mayer:

Gator Cleans House

Just My Friend and Me

Just Go To bed

Just For You

Just a Mess

Just Leave Me Alone

Just Grandpa and Me

and of course,

Just Grandma and Me

women Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this week's column and to others in the past. The column is a great way to keep in touch with the community and people who have moved. It's fun to hear from friends we know who moved to Florida, and North Carolina. If you have information please send it along to me.

Enjoy your week. Hopefully it'll get nice and stay that way.
