Nozzolio, Kolb won't support Thruway interchange Citing the widespread public opposition to the proposed Thruway interchange on Route 88 between Phelps and Newark, NY State Senator Michael F. Nozzolio and NY Assemblyman Brian Kolb will not support the development of this project. 'The residents of the communities affected by the proposed interchange have spoken, sending a strong and clear message that they do not support the development of this new Thruway interchange. As a result of the public's strong opposition, we cannot support this project, nor can we advocate for State funding to assist in the development of the proposed interchange,' they said. Nozzolio supported conducting a feasibility study for the project, but since the recent public outcry, particularly from Phelps residents, he has stated he can no longer advocate for this project. 'As part of the feasibility study, a public hearing was held to listen to the views and concerns of residents with regard to this project. The results... overwhelmingly showed that residents were not in support of the new Thruway interchange,' said Nozzolio. 'The concerns residents have raised regarding the proposed Thruway interchange are certainly legitimate and deserving of attention and serious consideration. Among their concerns are any potential increases in traffic, and congestion, lower property values, noise and air pollution, endangerment to wildlife, loss of farmland, and damage to their small town atmosphere,' said Kolb.
