Missing Sodus
By Melissa White

It seems as if Indian Summer has come to an end. (Trick or Treating was a bit chilly - kept us grown-ups awake. Afterwards, we were ready for a hot cup of tea and bed, but the kids were so sugared up, going to bed was the furthest thing from their minds.)

Author Ted Arnold will be at the Sodus Primary School on Monday, Nov. 6. I wish I could be there. Say 'hi' for me.

Ralph Everdyke and his wife, Betty, went to Winter Haven to visit with friends who arrived in Florida the other day. (Is there anyone left in Newark?) The Everdykes traveled via Zephyrhills and stopped at Sky Dive City. Ralph says the people sky dive every day unless its raining. Every thirty minutes, another plane goes up with about fifteen people in it. They come down really fast then, just before they touch down, they pull the cord. A couple of years ago, they were watching as the divers were trying to set a record. They saw l25 divers falling in a large circle. (I wouldn't know whether to watch or cover my eyes.) Ralph has been keeping track of the Newark weather. One particular day, it was 80 in Florida and in Newark that morning, it was 30 degrees. (Bet you miss it, huh, Ralph?)

checkmark Don't forget to Vote on Tuesday, and check for an Election Day dinner in your town. Many of them have one. There's an Election Day Breakfast at the Williamson Legion, from 6 to 10 a.m. and a Pork Roast at Pultneyville United Methodist Church at 5 p.m.

The Sodus Fire Dept. Turkey Party is tomorrow at 7 p.m., and Sodus Point Fire Dept. will hold one next Friday (Nov. 10) at 7 p.m.

Mark your calendars: the Sodus Free Library will be having the Big Used Book Sale on November 8, 9 and l0. On Wednesday and Thursday, noon to 8 p.m., and Friday noon to 5 ($1 Bag Sale). We never missed the book sales. Of course, the best time to go is when it starts, so you get a good selection. (My kids could never understand why the big hurry to buy some books at the library. They probably thought, 'They let you borrow them... what's the rush?') Carol says they've received many donations and have taken quite a few from their own collection, so there should be something for everyone.

The Williamson Public Library will be celebrating National Children's Book Week November l3 - l9. On Monday Nov. 13, kids will stop, swap and have a free hot dog and chips along with some ice cream. The Swap Meet will be open from 5 to 7 p.m. for kids in grades 4-8. Bring in your old books, magazines, videotapes, videogames or CDs in good condition that you have gotten tired of, and trade them with other kids. Robin says to begin looking for items to swap and join the library for this free activity. For the younger children, on Wed., Nov. l5, from 7 to 7:30 p.m., it's Pajama Storytime! Children 3 years of age and older are invited to bring their parents, their special blanket or stuffed toy and wear their comfy pjs for 30 minutes of fun. Storytime will include wonderful stories, fingerplays and creative dramatics. (And Robin didn't forget the bedtime snack... milk and cookies will be provided.) For more information on all the fun, call the library at 589.2048 What a cozy way to spend the evening.

Jeremy Pike had a fun birthday I'm sure. The rest of the Pikes will be celebrating in December. So many birthdays, so little time. If you have a birthday you'd like to have mentioned, write to me and I'll be sure to add it. Also, if you have functions or events you'd like to share send them along to me at

Thanks to everyone who has sent me information. I look forward to hearing from more of you.

Have a great week, and stay warm.
