And the scarecrow winners are...

   scarecrow photoThe Apple Shed's First Annual Scarecrow Convention and Contest on Saturday drew contestants from the surrounding area.

 The scarecrows were judged on strength, durability to the weather, use of materials, imagination and character. The scarecrows will be on display at The Apple Shed during October.

Cash prizes were awarded the first and second place winners and a grand prize was awarded the top overall best scarecrow.

Grand Prize: 'Critter Crow' - Susan and Julianna Everdyke, Lyons

Children (12 and under): First place - 'Freddy' - Samantha Palermo, Newark (pictured)

Second Place - 'Pumpkinhead' - Bennett Schoonerman, Linden Drake, Abram Boerman, Palmyra

Adults/Families: First place - 'Scary Garcia' - Albanese Family, Lyons Second place - 'Mr. Raker' - Brian Meslyn, Lyons

Schools: First place - 'Williamson Nursery' - Williamson Cooperative Nursery, Williamson

Second place -CherCrow - St. Patrick's School Seneca Falls, 8th Grade Art Class

Special prizes were awarded for best use of traditional materials - Esmerelda in the Garden - Wayne Smith, North Rose; best use of contemporary materials - Elvis - by Candy Apple Children's Center;

Best historical: - 'Uncle Sam Crow' - Mrs Hemingway's Midlakes BOCES Class;

Most unusual - 'Mr. Crow Jangles' - Tami Cornwell, Sodus; Scariest -Darth Vader - Kasie Tierson; and funniest - 'C.T.' - the Stack Family, Newark.
