Sodus Schools are planning construction Bids for a planned Capital Construction Project for the Sodus School District were received September 28. The estimated cost was $17,075,000 and the low bids totaled $17,304,276. By considering designated alternates, contracts have been awarded within approved budget amounts. Beardsley Design Associates (BDA) of Auburn provided designs for the reconfiguration of the District buildings to accommodate an Intermediate School, a Middle School, and a High School. BDA also provided designs for the reconstruction of the Primary School to renovate existing space for District Offices. This is a planned change from their current 4-6 Intermediate and 7-12 Jr.-Sr. High School alignment. At the Middle School, BDA provided designs for the creation of a new main entrance, office and nurse's suite, and for conversion of science rooms into classrooms and resource rooms. A new addition to the Middle School includes Home and Careers, Art and Technology, eight classrooms, two science rooms, special education, and a computer room. The High School will occupy existing building space and will 'share' a new three-room music suite, library, and cafeteria/ kitchen area with the Middle School. A fitness room addition to the existing field house for student use has been designed. At the Intermediate School a new library learning center, art room, large group music room, special education classroom, computer room, gymnasium, and locker rooms have been designed. As part of this project, BDA provided the design of a six-lane, 25-yard pool with its own locker rooms for school and community use. Seating for about 300 spectators is included via an upper gallery. BDA also provided designs for complete replacement and expansion of parking and roadways, landscaping, and walkways to accommodate new building entrances, six new tennis courts, and new athletic fields for soccer and softball.
