Lights will flash at Miller St. school Recent news is welcome that Newark School District received a $5000 state grant to purchase and install flashing lights around the 15 mph signs at the Miller Street Middle School. After conversations with Superintendent Robert Christmann about what he might be able to do to assist in enhancing safety at Newark schools, Assemblyman Bob Oaks worked to obtain the grant. A check from State Comptroller H. Carl McCall was received by the school district October 3. Christmann said the decision was made to use the money to purchase the lights for the signs at the Miller Street School, because younger children will be attending the school next year when it will become a grades 3-5 school. A portion of the wide sidewalk area in front of the school will be cut away, so parents who stop their vehicles to drop off their children can do so out of the traffic flow. School and village officials met this week to discuss when the lights will be installed and other safety-related matters.
