Happenings By Carolyn Adriaansen (926-4436) THANKS! to Helen Hotel for the interesting copy of Colors of Autumn. I liked the articles, especially the one on cider making. All women of the United Church were invited to Tuesday's lunch at the Yellow Mills Cafe. Melody Corridi was welcomed as guest organist at the United Church on October 15, 2000. On October 15, Leighton Wiant, Deb and Dan Halstead led the worship service at the United Church. They shared their experiences at this summer's Group Workcamp at the Standing Rock Indian Reservation in North Dakota. Crystal Halstead was unable to attend as she is away at college. Jeannette Stubenrod continues her recovery following eye transplant surgery. Mark your calendars for the United Church's Chicken and Biscuit dinner on October 30. And the Boy Scouts are having a spaghetti dinner on October 29, 3-6 p.m., at Maryellen's on Main St. Take-outs available. Proceeds go into the Troop Activity Fund. A update on the HARVEST FESTIVAL on Saturday, October 21. Bob at B.F. Golfing is having specials you won't want to miss if you are a golfer (or remember, Christmas is coming). Some specials are all rubber grips at $3.00 while they last, new woods at $5 off, irons (3 pw) $150, wedges $15 each, putters at $15 each. Stop in at 3868 North Main or call 926.5802. Sponsors of the Marion Legion Baseball Program will be set up with a 50-50 Raffle and will have the For Lunch or Brunch cook books available. Katlyn's Keg will be offering specials during the day and there will be a wine tasting session so be sure to stop by. Plan to have a soscyzen at Maryellen's Downtown Cafe before, during or after your tour of Marion's Harvest Festival. She will offer her usual menu along with some specials for the day. OCTOBER 30, 1941: Enrollments in the Elementary School reached a new high in Marion Central this year. The largest enrollments are in the primary grades and in fairness to the children it has been decided to set up two rooms in the Presbyterian Church. Open House of the Leaning Barn will be on November 3, 4, and 5. Cider, cookies, door prize. The traditional 'Get out the vote' sauerkraut dinner will be held at the elementary school Nov. 7, from 5-7:30 p.m. Adults $5.50, children K-5 $3.00, family $20.00. Proceeds go the Dr. Bovet Scholarship Fund. This event started by Rotary over 30 years ago to encourage voters to come out and do their civic duty and come together for an enjoyable social gathering. A Chicken and Biscuit dinner will be held Monday October 30, 4:30 to 7 p.m. at The United Church of Marion. Homemade pies and takeouts available.
