Missing Sodus This week has been just the peak of Fall, hasn't it? The leaves are beautiful and weather has been so nice. And it's supposed to be a beautiful weekend. We went to the Rochester Museum and Science Center to check out the next exhibit, which of course we couldn't get near because everyone else was there to see it, as well. We did, however, manage to get a ride in one of the little ship-type vehicles they have. They have two, and they're kind of a cross between something space-age and a white mini-van with no windows. Since I'm a bit of a coward, I hemmed and hawed, but it was really quite an experience. There is a big screen in front of you, and you watch as you go 'under the water' - the whole time the vehicle is moving this way and that. The kids, of course, loved it. Speaking of traveling, Ralph Everdyke and his wife made it back to Florida. They made it in one night of driving. (1330 miles is a long night, Ralph.) He said they went to dinner at a local restaurant and, just as they were leaving, they saw the shuttle take off. How exciting. Ralph can keep us up on the nice weather and we'll tell him all about our snow adventures come January and February... I know he'll miss it. Did you happen to see Frank Spano of Sergeant St., Sodus in a recent newspaper? What a surprise to see an old neighbor - Good photo, Frank. And I see you've got a critter. It wasn't long ago that I had a bat flying around my upstairs. It's nice to have professionals who can come help you (or the critter) out. Are you going to the Rotary Pasta Night tonight? It's at the Sodus High cafeteria, 5-7:30 p.m. The Gatesingers will perform, and there'll be a slide show by Sodus Town Historian Richard Ransley. Did you enter the scarecrow decorating contest in Sodus Point? You have until today to enter - you can fill out a form until 5 p.m. at Papa Joe's, Krenzer's or the Sodus Point Trading Company.
And don't forget the Chicken & Biscuit dinner tomorrow at the Sodus Reformed Church on Maple Ave. They'll be serving from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, you can ride the Giant Pumpkin at the Corner Market, Route 104, Williamson. Head there this weekend, 1-4 p.m. for a ride, free cider and popcorn. Pine Hill Orchards Farm Market on 2745 Rte 14 in Lyons will be having a Pumpkin party next Saturday, Oct. 28. Also, don't forget the Face Painting Lessons on Saturdays at Burnap's Farm Market in Sodus. You and the kids can pick out pumpkins, pick up your fresh fruit and vegetable and dessert for dinner. More October birthdays to celebrate: Sue Lowenguth, John Lieders on the 24 and Jeremy Pike has a Halloween birthday. If you have any birthdays you'd like added, or a special event you'd like to share, please write to me at I look forward to hearing from you soon. Have a great week, and enjoy the fall.
