E. Pal Eagles enjoy the season
East Palmyra Christian School soccer players were practicing last Saturday, preparing for their game with the team from St. Michael School of Newark. The EPCS Eagles end their season next week. 'It's been a good one,' said Keith Vanderzwan, EPCS principal. 'Our team has come together well and is playing like a unit.' Coach Michelle Haslund has done much work in this, her first year of coaching soccer at EPCS. 'We graduated some excellent players last year,' said Haslund, also a parent of two EPCS students. 'This year's team is a strong one, though, and the players are enjoying playing the game and doing it well.' This year's Eagles co-ed soccer team, sporting a 4-3-2 record, is made up of eighth graders Leisel Stoep (Lyons), Jeff Ryckbost, Tyler LaTray, Matt Joyce, John Dingman (Newark), Josh Nelson, Mackenzie Davis (Marion), Joe Killinger (Palmyra-Macedon); seventh graders Leanne Zonneville, Jessica Van Halle, Brittany LaTray, Kendra Kuperus, Sarah Haslund (Newark), Johanna Stoep (Lyons), Sonja Cosh (Canandaigua); and sixth graders Jeremiah Van Dorp (Marion), David Kruse (Palmyra-Macedon), Chris Hewitt (Pal-Mac), Danielle Henry (Lyons), Max Dingman (Newark). The school competes in the Western New York Christian School Athletic Association which includes Calvary Chapel of Canandaigua, Rochester Christian, Greece Christian, St. Paul Lutheran, North Chili Christian, and Christ Community Christian Schools. East Palmyra Christian also fields two basketball teams, girls volleyball in the fall and spring, and coed track and field in the late spring. EPCS teams also play exhibition games with St. Michael School and community teams.
