Missing Sodus We have certainly had beautiful weather this fall. We went to the Southern Tier to visit my parents. The trees on the hills were so colorful and the view going into the valley was just breathtaking. Don and Jean VanKouwenberg of Newark, who now live in Melbourne, Florida (for the winter months - they actually just sold their home on Stebbins Rd.) had dinner the other night with Ronald Osborn, Janice Copeland, Howard and Betty VanKouwenberg. Ronald Osborn lives in Newark, Howard and Betty live in Sodus during the summer and go to Cocoa, Florida during the cold months. I bet the conversation of how nice it'll be in Florida when the people of Wayne County and New York are shoveling never even came up. Janice, Don's sister, is from Buffalo and now lives all year in Melbourne. Speaking of Florida, Mary Rought and her family are going for a visit this weekend. Maybe she'll see some of our neighbors while she's on the beach. Helen Phillips has really enjoyed volunteering at the Old Sodus Point Lighthouse this year. She had fun meeting all the people who came through. The Museum is closing for the season at the end of this month. Happy Halloween Birthday to Jeremy Pike. The Wallington Halloween Parade will start tomorrow at 10 a.m. on Ridge Rd., and head to the Wallington Fire Hall, where there'll be cider, doughnuts, games, treats, pumpkin painting, and, of course, a costume contest.
Oh, and don't forget that the Scouts will be out this Saturday leaving bags on your door for their 'Scouting for Food' program. They'll be back next Saturday to pick them up. All the food stays in the area and provides assistance to your local food closet. So, if you're at the store, pick up a few extra cans of soup, or an extra jar of peanut butter. Carol Garland went to Syracuse last Tuesday with Librarians from Lyons, Rose, Wolcott and Red Creek to receive info about ordering new equipment, funded by the Technology Grants provided by Bill and Melanie Gates Foundation. The Sodus Library will be receiving five (Carol is so excited) new computers for Public Internet Access, a top-of-the-line printer, training and software. The computers will be installed some time in early 200l and are loaded with several educational games and reference materials. The Sodus Library will be having a Big Used Book sale at the beginning of November. Ralph Everdyke and his wife, Betty, are trying to recuperate from colds they caught in Florida and New York. Well, Ralph, it could be worse - it could be the flu. (He and his wife were going to play golf on Friday. I'm sure the outdoors and sunshine will help them.) Ralph said the golf crew from up North was beginning to show up and they were thinking about their league started again. Make plans for next Saturday - it's a busy one. There's:
A benefit Roast Beef Supper at the Sodus Center Fire Hall at 4 p.m. The Annual Key West Bonnet Party at the Bay Street in Sodus Point (483.2233) AND The Sodus Fire Dept. Turkey Party at the Fire Hall on Mill St., at 7 p.m. If you have special occasions or events you'd like to have mentioned, please write to me at Have a great week and don't forget to write. Thanks to everyone who has contributed.
